Murgia Sgolgore (BA)
Rif. # 012
Located halfway between Altamura and Matera (less than 10 km from each), the Murgia Sgolgore district stands on a vast hilly clearing in the middle of the Alta Murgia National Park, a plateau in the central hinterland of Puglia, the first rural national park and naturalistic of Italy, two specificities that constitute a set of unique and fundamental agroecosystems. A place immersed in silence far from inhabited centers, where vehicle traffic is almost absent. In the municipal local road, the agricultural vehicles of the neighboring farms still in activity meet above all.
FARMHOUSE DESCRIPTION
The farm / masseria overlooks the vast Murgian territory, the pseudosteppa, preserved by the European Commission for the uniqueness of its natural vegetation and faunal habitats, now protected and enhanced by the Park established for over a decade. A view of the Murgia among the plots dedicated to pastoralism, wheat cultivation, olive groves and almond groves, marked by the grid of dry stone walls, typical of the Murgia, today recognized as cultural intangible assets by Unesco; these mark the properties and the historical sheep tracks of transhumance. A deep view up to see the urban agglomerations of Santeramo in Colle, Altamura and Matera, the city of the Sassi.
A part of the farm which has already been restructured and re-functionalized is available to guests; two lamioni of 45 m2 each, volumes with a barrel vault made with local tuff by master builders of the past that today testify to the architectural and historical identity of the Apulian farms. The terrace on the first lamione is also an emblem of the typicality of the rural settlements of the Murgia, a panoramic observation point from which you can almost see the sea of the Apulian coast.
The windowed doors of the structure overlook the farmyard lawn and look at the enclosure of the donkeys which, given their nature, give a relaxing feeling to those who can observe them.
The structure, simple and spartan, but also extremely charming for this reason, offers its guests accommodation including bed and bathroom linen and the shared use of the open space, equipped with a technical kitchen peninsula, terrace, twin bedroom with bathroom (in preparation: finishing walls and furnishings).

FARM CROPS AND PRODUCTS
The farm has an olive grove, fruit trees, fields planted with wheat and forage, an area in Murgia. The oil is produced in modest quantities given the modest extension of the crop but it is of particular quality both for the "coratina" variety of the plants, both for the natural practice and for the careful harvesting of the olives at the right time and the pressing at cold. In the structure there are also three donkeys, an indigenous breed protected by Martina Franca, with which guests are accompanied on trekking routes, in the company of these sweet and affectionate animals, which mark the rhythm of the journey by being part of the travel.
